Where We Dance

Are you all about improving and expanding your dance abilities and skills?  Not afraid to share, do a little trial and error, laugh at the mistakes and take joy in the unexpected magic… and have fun while learning?  Always wished there was a social gathering of “like-minded” dancers?  Already know the benefits of having other genre as a part of your repertoire for west coast swing, but can’t get it ALL in one spot?  Tired of “gracefully” saying no (or accepting the invitation, just sucking it up and trying to keep the smile on your face) to those who do not take the time/energy to learn how to perform their dances with good technique and etiquette? Maybe you’re a new dancer and would like to gain another perspective?

Featuring MUSIC for competition level (or only the currently popular) west coast swing, country-western two-step, hustle, ballroom formal and informal, latin, and linedancing (esp. as motion studies).

Good news?  The "west coast swing barn dance" we did at Fusion in November 2007 was a resounding success.   I received soooo many compliments on that one single activity as well as MANY thanks that so many of the Juniors came and asked them to dance … esp. since so many of them felt very intimidated and shy (WELL DONE - YOU GUYS ROCK).

I know we are not necessarily trying to build a huge club or anything … however, I MUST think of public relations as it will reflect on the Dance Thing Juniors program … esp. fundraising opportunities.  When people do not like you or do not feel like they are "worthy" of your presence or are just plain shy, they don't want to come back.  We ALL want to dance with better dancers.  If you are ever feeling sorry for yourself … think about people like Doug … he has to dance DOWN all evening long -- and NEVER do I hear HIM say he can't stand it any more.  He makes it a magical dance for himself as well as for the person.  He is always gracious and actively seeks out those that look like they are lost.  I want all of us to dance by this example.

From here on out, DT Fusion, will have the tradition of the "wcs barn dance."  Instead of yelling "St. Louis" I'll yell DANCE THING.  However, I'm going to do it earlier in the evening.  And I may even do it twice in the same evening.  I'll pick "fun and familiar" at least 5-7 minute songs (things like Michael Jackson) that make folks feel like they're at a party.  When I DO run these, I would LOVE it if you all would pepper the crowd … don't be next to each other in the circle so that we can get DT members all around the room.  We are also going to continue the tradition that we dance with others at the beginning of the evening and then start letting it relax later.  Say … the first hour goes to "the people" and then we can relax and just dance with each other, as well as, hopefully, our new made friends from the first hour -- MAKE them feel you would welcome THEM asking you to dance.
